BANGKOK

Dates:

Our tour starts with a 2 day stay in Bangkok, Thailand, which will allow us to get rid of some our jet lag from traveling 8,000 miles through different time zones. We will be visiting amazing, otherworldly Buddhist temples and Thai palaces, doing some exotic shopping, tasting delicious vegetarian cuisine at the Italian vegetarian restaurant Govinda’s.

We will also see Thailand’s most spectacular cultural show (http://www.siamniramit.com/). The show itself defies description unless you can imagine the Metropolitan Opera, a Las Vegas show and Cirque de Soleil all rolled into one portraying things that are uniquely Thai. The world’s largest stage (according to Guinness) will take you on a journey through Siam’s history, folklore and festivals in an epic performance that includes a cast of 150, more than 500 costumes, as well as sailing ships, angels flying through space, live animals, and a visits to the mystical, supernatural places of Thai legend. It is fun, exhilarating and you will leave having experienced something much closer to what Thai culture and the Thai spirit are all about. The cost of this event is included in the tour package.

TOUR # 1 - North India
PURI

Dates:

We fly from Bangkok to Calcutta, and take a early flight to Bhavanesvara, the capitol city of the state of Orissaa, which is located on the central east coast of India. From there, we drive for 1.5 hours to the amazing and ancient city of Puri. Puri is situated on the beach, so we should also get some warm days for swimming in the ocean (Bay of Bengal). Puri is mentioned in the Vedas as one of the four most important pilgrimage places in India. We have a beach front hotel planned for your stay. It is a very lush, tropical, and beautiful place.

Konark, the famous sun-god temple, is an hour drive from Puri, and we will make it one of our stops.

JAIPUR & PUSKAR

Dates:

After our transcendental visit to Vrindavan, we leave for Jaipur, also know as the “Pink City”. Known for its many ancient forts and palaces, Jaipur is a favorite stopping spot for almost all tourists who come to India. It is the gem cutting capitol of the world, and the city where all Deities or images of God are hand carved out of marble. We will stay here for 3 days, exploring the sights and experiencing an elephant ride up to Amber fort.

Next, we will visit the quiet town of Pushkar. Situated on the holy Pushkar Lake, besides ashrams and unique temples, there are dozens of shops where westerners come to buy unique styles of ethnic clothing. Many hippies also visit this town. Pushkar is the home of the world’s largest camel fair.

Rishikesh

Dates:

Finally, saving the best until last, we take an early morning flight from Jaipur to Dehradun, which is only 45km to the place of yogis and ashrams, Rishikesh and Haridwar. These are very ancient holy places on the banks of the Ganges. Mother Ganga is flowing fresh out of the Himalayas, and we will have the experience to take a refreshing karma-free dip in her holy waters daily. There is lots to take in – dozens of temples, ashramas that conduct yoga classes, and the surrounding spiritual potency and beauty.
The official tour will be here in Rishiskesh for 5 days, so there will be time for meditation and relaxation. However, anyone who would like to extend their pilgrimage for another week or so at their own expense, this is an ideal and contemplative place to do that. Many Western world yoga teachers and students come here and stay for two to four weeks for yoga retreats. For anyone wishing to do this, we would need to know at the beginning of their booking the tour so that we can arrange the date beforehand of air travel back to Delhi and then on to the U.S.
